AUGUST 2018: The Khoja Shia Ithna-Asheri Community Diaspora: An Exploratory Overview, delivered at Shi'a Ithna-Asheri Muslim Community of Middlesex (SICM), North Harrow, UK.

This exploratory talk will provide some reflection about the Khoja Shia Ithna-Asheri Community diaspora which is part of the global Indian community. It will begin by providing a rationale and conceptual framework used for the study and delve briefly into the circumstances under which the Khoja Shia Ithna-Asheries had to migrate from India and then emigrate to East-Africa, Europe, Canada, United States of America and elsewhere. It will explore the extent of acculturation and transformation that affected the community, its current challenges and whether it is able to overcome them.

NOVEMBER - 2017 - A CALL FOR JUSTICE - REVIVING QUR'ANIC PRINCIPLES

My heart saddens at the escalating sequence of events pertaining to scholarly and public disagreements within our small community. The last few months have shown that we simply do not have the maturity or a process within our community institutions to handle differences of opinion coming from the mimbar (pulpit). Whether a person is a male or female, scholar or layman, leader or volunteer, we do not have the God-given or human right to be aggressive or abuse anyone. We do not have the right to be suspicious of a person’s action as a crime or a sin until there is proof to class it as such. We do not have the right to articulate a judgement on a person’s views until sound, transparent evidences and testimonies have been gathered. This is the essence of justice. What have our Imams said on the issue of banning speakers? How did they deal with scholars who disagreed with them? Is it the practice of the Ahl al-Bayt (a.s) to ban those who disagree with them? Find out in the latest Awakening Project report:
